Local knowledge
Employment law in Falkirk
Falkirk’s economy was built on iron and heavy industry, but it now relies increasingly on retail, services and tourism, with The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel drawing visitors. Falkirk Council is one of the largest local employers, with a workforce of over 7,000, and the NHS and the Department for Work and Pensions also employ local people. Public sector and retail roles often raise issues about rotas, absence and grievances.
Many Falkirk residents have also worked in the petrochemicals sector at neighbouring Grangemouth. Oil refining there ended in April 2025, with around 400 direct job losses as the site was turned into an import terminal. Where redundancies or transfers affect you, directly or through a contractor, we can review consultation, selection, redundancy pay and any settlement agreement offered.
For Falkirk businesses, we advise on contracts, restructuring and redundancy, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, and absence and performance management. Whether you employ a handful of people or a large workforce, we can help you plan changes carefully, follow a fair procedure and reduce the risk of a tribunal claim.

Not necessarily. Call us on 0141 471 9166 or book online and we will arrange your free 30-minute consultation by video, by phone or in person. Most of our meetings take place by video, so there is usually no need to travel. If you would like to meet in person, our office is at 11 Ashley Street, Glasgow, and trains from Falkirk High run to Glasgow about every 15 minutes.
Where would a Falkirk employment tribunal hearing take place?
Hearings for Falkirk claims are often held at the Glasgow Tribunals Centre, 20 York Street, Glasgow, and Edinburgh also has a hearing centre at 54-56 Melville Street. Some hearings also take place by video. We will explain what to expect at each stage.
How long do I have to bring a claim?
For most claims the time limit is now six months from the date of the act you are complaining about, such as your dismissal. This changed on 1 October 2026; before then it was three months less one day. You usually need to start Acas early conciliation first, and time limits can be strict, so speak to a solicitor as early as you can.
Do you advise Falkirk and Grangemouth employers?
Yes. We advise businesses across the Falkirk area on contracts, restructuring, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, absence and performance management, and handling whistleblowing reports.
